Colt Technology Services says it has formed a partnership with Telecom Egypt to launch two new high-speed internet transit nodes in Cairo and Alexandria that will enable both firms to offer digital services to customers across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The nodes will be hosted in Telecom Egypt’s data centres and have access to Telecom Egypt’s international infrastructure – which connects over 60 countries – as well as Colt’s global IP network.
Colt said in a blog post on Tuesday that the tie-up with Telecom Egypt will enhance the end-to-end internet experience and support the digital transformation journey for businesses in those three regions.
The partnership also leverages Egypt’s growing role as a key connectivity hub linking Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The country currently provides landing points for 18 subsea cable systems that provide access to internet transit nodes. That number will increase to 22 next year as new systems become ready for service, starting with the Africa-1 system, which connects France and Algeria to Pakistan, with another branch landing in Kenya.
Africa-1 is slated to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of this year.
